Building Works Advice - Schedule 1 Exemptions

DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITY

Building work may or may not require building consent under the Building Act 2004, depending on the type of work being done. If the work meets the criteria for exemptions listed in Schedule 1 of the Act, then no consent is required

Schedule 1 is a guide for both building and homeowners who are planning building work, as well as trade and sector professionals who are carrying out or giving advice on building work. Examples of exempted work include single-story detached buildings, renovation, and alteration of bathrooms, Decks, Retaining walls, Pergolas

It is the responsibility of property owners to get the right advice and to either obtain building consent or carry out the work as exempted work

1) Submit the property file to AGENTS NZ for inquiry
2) Establish a service agreement with AGENTS NZ
3) Examine the property file
4) Go on-site and meet with the property owner
5) Compile a report giving an opinion on Schedule 1 and supply supporting documentation
6) Finalize the service contract
